Rousing election speech

I’m pleased to announce that I’m an official leadership candidate for the Green Party of Nova Scotia. Politics and statesmanship are what I think about everyday and think about it naturally.

As leader I want to take our Green policies and spread the word all across Nova Scotia, we can also be the party that will show people, governments, and businesses the methods and tools needed to become more sustainable. We will reach out and engage people offering ways and ideas towards a more fulfilling way of life, a life with more social justice, a life of fresh healthy locally produced food, a life where we as citizens can take pride in who we are as a province and culture. I want to take your good ideas and give them a voice and representation, facilitating the changes you would like to make.

We can become known as the great educators and draw people into our party with our accomplishments. We need to dig in and help and guide and leave our mark. And what I mean by leaving our mark doesn’t just mean knocking on citizens doors, it doesn’t just mean shaking hands and saying “we need carbon taxes”, we will also participate in our community events and endeavors. We, the GPNS, can become the global leaders and guides to sustainable living. With me as leader we can become tremendous assets as educators for municipal governments as they struggle to ‘Go Green’ and save them tremendous money at the same time, we will also educate the current political establishment on the ways we as a province can change as well. We need to physically take part in building the province we dream of, show people how to grow their own fresh organic food, volunteer our time with that next community project, take the lead and create beautiful things ourselves, and make it awesome, and when people look at it or use it they will say “the Greens helped make this happen”, “the Greens showed us how to produce ridiculous amounts of fresh healthy food, and now our belies are full.” And with that more people will appreciate and support local farmers as well.

We need to take our economy and transform it into the place of choice for green sustain minded businesses to plant their roots here in Nova Scotia and we will create the most prolific economy based on sustainable ideas and cultural breadth. We as the Greens need to redefine how we all live and work in our great province. Imagine thousands of new jobs based on transforming our province to a sustainable mecca by producing goods and services that will wean us off of oil and harmful chemicals making our air fresh again. And when we transform our province we can then export our tools and ways of living across North America and beyond. Imagine the pride and fulfillment we will all have knowing what we are working towards and building will actually make a difference.

The fact that we are small is the biggest asset we have addressing the challenges of moving towards a sustainable way of living, our land is small, our population is small, the distance between farm to plate is small, we can be the example of what less is more means and we can all be more happy in life reconnecting with things that really matter. Imagine Nova Scotia being a center of arts and culture because all of the conscience artists and creative minds around the world want to live in a truly sustainable place. Imagine Nova Scotia as the top destination for tourists to come ‘be green for a week’ and take the experiences they adsorbed back to their homes and spread it there. Imagine thousands of university students flocking to our province every school year to immerse themselves in the most sustainable place in the world, all wanting to participate and learn, some settling down to live here while the others transplant their new way of living abroad. The time to raise awareness is over, it is time to start leading and facilitating change and forging the direction we the Greens want our province to move towards.

This is the vision I have, this is the direction I feel our great province of Nova Scotia should move in. As Gandhi said “You must be the change you want to see in the world.” And we the Greens can show others a better way of living. Let the revolution begin.
